CARNIVAL – Journal of the International Students of History Association (ISHA) is now sending a call for papers for the next volume: Vol. 18 (2016): Nationalism, Diversity, and Marginalisation in Urban History.

The editorial board of CARNIVAL invites students (undergraduate and postgraduate) from all disciplines with a connection to the historical sciences to submit articles and reviews for the upcoming issue of our journal. Inspired by the themes of the recent special seminars in Paris and Rome, and the theme of the Summer Seminar in Osijek, students are encouraged to submit works which speak to the topics of nationalism, marginalisation, diversity, and urban history.

Topics include, but are not limited to:

• Nationalism
• Transnationalism
• Globalisation
• Anti-colonial and post-colonial movements
• Migration
• Urban spaces and multiculturalism
• Racism
• Religious, political, and ethnic minorities
• Disability in history
• Gender and sexuality in history (including the role of women in history, sexual minorities, and LGBT history etc.),
• Criminality (including prostitution, criminal organizations, prisoners, bandits, heretics etc.)

CARNIVAL is a peer-reviewed academic journal directed by a committee of international graduate students and early career researchers affiliated with the International Students of History Association. In addition to showcasing the work of students of the historical sciences, CARNIVAL provides a unique platform from which emerging scholars are able to develop their skills as writers, editors, reviewers and translators, and familiarize themselves with the processes integral to academic publishing. The journal is published annually online.

Abstracts (max. 500 words) should be submitted by 30 September 2016. Abstracts should briefly summarise the proposed topic, methodology to be utilised, and evidence of source material.
